Again there is also a huge version of the map - click here - as well as the one linked to from the thumbnail on the left. This map deals with where you will find the different types of humans and associated races that have embraced aspects of the culture. All of the greens are Celts and both yellows Angles, Saxons, Jutes, and any other Northern European race except Huns and Vikings. |
The abundance of green, mustard and brown shows that the three main types are Celts, Picts and Erse. All of these are similar in nature and lifestyle but there are a few differences apart from the lands they occupy. The Celts, lowland Pics and lowland Erse live in roundhouses and many of their settlements are hillforts. The highland Pics and Erse tend to live in one story stonewalled buildings with turf covered roofs. All consider raiding a sport and rarely do their raids upon one another, mainly for livestock, result in deaths. All farm and keep livestock. Cattle are the most prized but sheep and goats are kept as well. Dogs are trained for hunting, protecting livestock and guarding. Geese are kept in most settlements as they give warning of trouble as well as eggs. Most of their clothing is of wool and hide. All have a love of music, poetry and stories. Celts When it comes to painting and decorative design the Celts are way in front of many other races. Very few are predudiced against any of the non human races and their are recognisable similarities in lifestyle and clothing of many of the non human races in areas where they live - especially Elves and Orcs. Once matriarcal it is now not uncommon to have male led settlements. Practicality of these hard times more often than not puts the best suited for leadership into that position. Their favored weapons are spear, one handed sword, shield and bow. Picts Picts are the most warlike of the three races and Pict mercinaries abound. They subdued native Orcs many centuries ago and the survivors have adopted both the Pictish lifestyle and language. They also get on very well with Dwarves who consider themselves to be Pictish as well and tend to live in the higher valleys in walled forts with underground complexes. On the West coast and Islands there have been Erse raiding and some have remained and settled. The other raiders they have had to contend with are the Vikings but none of these have gained land yet. The lowlanders and highlanders are constantly having goes at each other but the moment the land is threatened they stand shoulder to shoulder. They rarely use the bow but favour the sling and the two handed sword. Erse Minerals give a lot of saffron colored dyes and so much of their clothing is of this color. To the South they are more Celtic in style and to the North more Pictish but their tolerance of Fey and acceptance of a Fey King and Queen makes them special. Some also say that their love of singing and dancing is influenced by their love of a dark stout that they consume in quite high quantities. The Erse Fey or Sidh consider themselves to be Erse. Their are no non-human races above ground except the Fey and some Dragons. The Fomor were driven out eons ago and Elves never went there. Underground the Dwarves did for the Drow and Fomor and their main enemy is the Duerger. A couple of tribes od Gnomes also live underground and that is about it. Dragon Lands and Greenskins Some say the Greenskins were started by a group of Redbranch Celts who had their berserking removed by the Morrigan and dedicated themselves to her teaching. They believe in warfare and honour in war. They claim their task is to teach this to all others by invading them through war. They rarely ravage the lands, do not tend to rape or pillage but tend to put strong leaders in charge and then attack somewhere else. They are a kind of clean sweep through weaker lands. Currently they are in the Dragon Lands and their attention is turned upon the Summer Lands. Romano In our history the Romans invaded, stayed long enough to introduce a load of new concepts, build roads, introduce stinging nettles, introduce bricks and a load of new style buildings - including bath houses and temples with roofs, and elevate healing with hospices and a better understanding of anatomy. Then as their civilisation came more and more under threat they took their armies away and have not come back. Some remained and their lifestyle was also adopted by not just a few natives. These are known as the Romano. Among them are some of the best non dwarven engineers. Viking Warriors from what we would call Greenland and Iceland. Tough and hardy. Their shamen tend to have aggressive magic and their healers are practically all female followers of Freya. Being driven from their homelands by Fomor they are now seeking to settle in the lands they formerly raided. They have metal armour and favour both the war axe and throwing axe as weapons. Angles, Saxons, etc. These come from the North west where they are being pushed out of their homelands by the Huns. They build rectangular wooden houses with thatched roofs. They are often hired as mercinaries and tend to settle in the lands of the people they are hired by. Eventually they are integrated. |
